I wasn’t aware of there were canals on Ireland. You learn as long as you live.
Hi dragonqueen – thank you for you comments. There are two very old canal systems in Ireland, both terminating in Dublin. They date from the last years of the eighteenth century, which is interesting in its own right because there was quite a bit of political turmoil back then. Nowadays the canals are quiet, with only the occasional barge to disturb the silence. They are among Ireland’s best kept secrets.
